The Greene County softball team has a 3-9 record after falling in three games last week.
On Monday, June 3, the Rams traveled to Saydel High School, falling 13-3 to the 5-1 team. The Rams found bat to ball contacts 10 times in the game, all singles. Payton Kokenge, Kaycee Pittman and Addison Gannon had two hits each with Bellah Johnson, Alaina Heard, Violet Reedy and Makenna Ebersole each contributing one.
Heard took the pitching job, throwing 97 times for eight hits, eight walks, three hit batters, three sacrifices allowed and four strikeouts. The Rams struggled on the field, credited with 17 putouts on 32 total chances. Nine errors and eight stolen bases allowed were not favorable for Greene County.
On Wednesday, the Rams hosted Perry and lost in a close 6-4 battle after staying within one run throughout the majority of the game. The Jayettes sent one home in the fifth without the Rams having an answer.
At the plate, there were eight hits by the Rams, including a triple from Kokenge with four Greene County strikeouts. The Rams saw 21 putouts, with pitcher Heard fanning five.
The Rams hosted 12th ranked PCM Friday, falling 14-1 to the 9-1 Mustangs. Greene County scored their sole run in the first inning with the Mustangs scoring two in the first, eight in the second and one in the third, with three scored in the fourth inning. Pittman scored the run after reaching on an error. Alivya Smith and Pittman managed the two Ram hits of the game, each singles. Five Rams struck out.
On the field, Greene County saw 11 putouts and six assists on 22 total chances with five errors on the field. First baseman Smith led in putouts with five with Kokenge and Sara Morlan credited with four each. Heard faced 23 batters, allowing eight hits and four walks with four hit batters and three strikeouts.
On Monday, June 10, Greene County hosted South Hamilton and will be at home on Wednesday against Roland-Story. They’ll travel to Ogden on Friday with the weekend to recoup ahead of a busy next week. On Monday, June 17, the Rams will travel to Nevada with their Tuesday game at Manson-NW Webster High School. On Wednesday, the team travels to West Marshall High School to face the 15th ranked Trojans, and on Thursday, the team will visit Kuemper Catholic’s home field in Carroll.
